Douglas R. Hofstadter, in Metamagical Themas: Questing for the Essence of Mind and Pattern, finds many of the illustrations “grotesque and disturbing” and others “extremely beautiful and visionary”. He says the book “seems to [many people] to glorify entropy, chaos, and incomprehensibility”
There’s a .pdf if you don’t have several hundred dollars to spend on a physical copy.

motherfucking life changing. i still need the real thing but holy crap to be able to actually have the whole thing accessible whenever the hell i want instead of relying on inter-library loans and shit! (the dewey classifies this under encyclopedias - other languages)
